Alla luce delle nuove tipologie familiari, il libro affronta la condizione della matrigna, attraverso capitoli che ne esaminano le dinamiche psicologiche (accudimento dei figliastri, rapporti con il compagno, relazioni con l’ambiente circostante…), con uno stile accattivante e spigliato, scherzoso e piacevolmente leggero. L’ironia del testo, mai banale, cela una sofferenza vissuta da parte dell’autrice che, nel tentativo di cancellare il solito pregiudizio fi abesco della matrigna come strega, lo sostituisce con l’immagine di una donna capace di cure materne.

Considering the new family typologies, the book deals with the increasingly relevant parental figure of the stepmother in several chapters, analysing the psychological dynamics (the stepmother as the woman who takes care of the stepchildren, the relationship with her partner, her interacting with the environment around her…) with a winning, easy, humorous and pleasantly light-hearted style (short sentences, third-person narrator). Nonetheless, the text is not at all superficial: irony hides a suffering truly experienced by the author who wants to cancel the widespread prejudice of the stepmother as a fairy-tale witch and substitute it with the image of the stepmother as a woman who can be very well a doting and caring mother.
